eSOL Extends RTOS and TCP/IP Support for
Nios II to the Latest Stratix II FPGA from Altera
-- Seamless Integration with Altera's Development Tools Reduces Software Porting Efforts Significantly --
Portland, Oregon – March 7, 2005 – eSOL, a proven developer of real-time
embedded software solutions, today announced that its leading multitasking
kernel, PrKERNELv4®, and embedded TCP/IP stack, PrCONNECT®2, are
now available for Altera's Nios II® soft-core embedded processor on
the Stratix II FPGA. PrKERNELv4 is a compact preemptive kernel suited for
real-time embedded applications and offers a rich set of more than 120
system calls. PrCONNECT2 is an embedded TCP/IP protocol stack that supports
a wide range of Internet protocols and includes an Ethernet driver with
direct support for the on-board Ethernet controller on Altera's development
kit boards.
This release includes supports for Altera's Development Kits for Stratix II Edition with the latest Nios II
integrated development environment (IDE) Version 1.1.
eSOL's unique support for the Nios II is seamless pre-integration with the Nios II integrated development
environment (IDE) and the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) from Altera. The Nios II IDE is based on the
Eclipse project as a standard integrated development environment for its open architecture and ease of
integration features through add-on packages. Altera also offers the Nios II HAL in its development kit to
simplify the process of creating a Board Support Package. The HAL eliminates board support package (BSP) and real
time operating system (RTOS) dependence on different versions of the FPGA and Nios II soft cores.
“The Stratix II will be the ideal platform for our RTOS solutions, especially where networking functionality
is critical,” said Tomoyuki Uda, managing director at eSOL, Inc. “and, the support for the HAL system
library helps developers reduce the porting to their custom hardware significantly, usually to less than a day!.”
Pricing and Availability
PrKERNELv4 and PrCONNECT2 are now available with full source code for Nios II and Stratix II. Support for Altera's Nios II IDE ver 1.1 and HAL is included.
