Tokyo, Japan. July 14, 2009 - eSOL announced today that its flagship eCROS integrated software platform suite now supports the Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) OMAP35x application processors, which feature the high-performance, superscalar 600 MHz ARM® Cortex™-A8 processor with four times the processing power of today's 300 MHz ARM9™ family-based devices.
The eCROS platform includes a multi-profiled, scalable real-time operating
system (RTOS), middleware and development tools. All of this is seamlessly
integrated and offered as a development platform that facilitates collaborative
development between system and application development engineers via eSOL's
unique approach to platform-based development.
For the OMAP35x evaluation module (EVM), eSOL has refined its RTOS portfolio
by shifting from its compact, robust PrKERNELv4 RTOS to the eT-Kernel RTOS.
eT-Kernel offers multiple profiles ranging from a minimum thread-based
microkernel compatible with PrKERNELv4 to a memory-protected, process-based
operating system. eT-Kernel also supports POSIX APIs in order to fully
reuse existing user applications and middleware based on the standard and
to accelerate application development with these familiar POSIX APIs.
"eT-Kernel support for the OMAP35x EVM is a significant milestone
for eSOL since we now can provide a multi-profiled RTOS with a powerful
IDE for developers who previously had to rely on just a handful of large-scale
RTOS solutions," said Nobuyuki Ueyama, the Executive Vice President
of eSOL Co., Ltd. "The eCROS solution provides scalability without
sacrificing optimal performance, along with a platform-based development
approach. This transparent migration path is a key ingredient for OEMs
and ODMs as they plan new enterprise projects as part of their strategies
for long-term success."
eSOL's eBinder integrated development environment (IDE) --- a component of the eCROS solution --- is tightly and seamlessly coupled with eT-Kernel, and includes development environments based on the ARM compilation tools to get the most of the Cortex-A8 processor. Powerful eT-Kernel awareness debugging, analysis and profiling tools are essential for large-scale application development. eBinder is also capable of generating a custom platform SDK, called Platform Package, that enables application developers to concentrate on platform application development, not on platform builds or configurations.
The custom platform developer, on the other hand, has full control over
what to provide in the platform, such as builds, configurations, boot images,
tool settings, deployment, etc. The combined effect of this results in
a smoother and more cost-effective platform-based development. eBinder,
combined with the multi-profiled, scalable eT-Kernel RTOS, provides a basis
for so-called software product lines that are rapidly emerging as a viable
and important software development paradigm that permits OEMs and ODMs
to realize order-of-magnitude improvements in time to market, cost, productivity,
quality and other business drivers.
"We are very pleased that eSOL has expanded their platform offering to the Cortex-A8 processor," said Takafumi Nishijima, president, ARM K.K.. "eSOL is a pioneer, not only in their scalable RTOS technologies but also their cutting edge, RVCT-powered development environments on many ARM core architectures, including their developments on our MPCore™ multicore technology. As a result, we regard eSOL as one of leaders in the embedded platform software industry."
In the last decade, eSOL has been extensively and strategically involved with many of TI's system-on-chip processors, including leading digital media processors based on DaVinci™ technology, such as the TMS320DM355, TMS320DM365, TMS320DM644x and TMS320DM646x, to name a few. eSOL has also worked closely with tier-one original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original development manufacturers (ODMs) around the globe that have deployed the popular PrKERNELv4 RTOS, middleware, and the eBinder IDE --- mainly for consumer electronics and automotive applications.
"eSOL's offering coupled with TI's OMAP35x hardware and software allow
our customers to minimize development costs. Additionally, scalability
will become a huge advantage for those ODMs and OEMs who can capitalize
on a single, versatile software platform that can be used to develop multi-level
products ranging from single- to multi-purpose applications," said
Alejandro Erives, OMAP35x marketing manager, TI.
