AUTOSAR Overview and Implementation Benefits

AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) is a consortium founded in 2003 with the goal of "standardizing" essential to advance the reuse of automotive software and automation of the development process across the automotive industry.

Almost all automobile-related companies are now participating in AUTOSAR. AUTOSAR has already been adopted in almost all new development projects in Europe, and is expected to be increasingly used in development projects in Japan. A standard originally defined as a standard based on the static OS (OSEK/VDX OS) was defined as Classic Platform later, and the Adaptive Platform based on the dynamic OS (POSIX based) was introduced in 2017.
At the same time, the Foundation was established for common technical specifications for the Classic Platform and Adaptive Platform, including common requirements, methodologies, and protocols.

AUTOSAR Standardization — Non-AUTOSAR to AUTOSAR Standard

The introduction of AUTOSAR makes hardware and application software more independent and easier to standardize. It can be separated into horizontal layers through abstraction, reducing development time, cost, and efficiency as shown in the following example.
  • Possible to link applications (In and between ECUs) without concern for communication protocols
  • Clarify the division of roles between OEM and ECU suppliers to facilitate collaboration and division of labor

Recent Challenges in the Automotive Industry and AUTOSAR Developments

Future vehicles will require advanced autonomous driving, Car2X and V2X applications, IoT and cloud services, increased data volume, and high reliability. Automotive computing in E/E Architecture requires high performance, flexibility and Internet connectivity. At the same time, you must be prepared to meet additional requirements for backward compatibility, safety, and peace of mind with existing solutions. To address this challenge, AUTOSAR defines technologies that link the Adaptive Platform with various infotainments and the Class Platform.

AUTOSAR and AUBIST Products

*AUBIST-related products will be provided by eSOL in place of AUBASS from April 1, 2024, as AUBASS will become a wholly owned subsidiary of DENSO.

In response to these advances in automotive technology, eSOL develops AUTOSAR compliant BSW products, related products, and development tools, and provides them under the AUBIST * brand. In addition, eSOL has obtained software development process certification for the ISO 26262 2nd Edition (ISO 26262: 2018), an automotive functional safety standard, and is compliant with the development process for functional safety (ASIL-D). We will provide safe and secure BSW for the automotive market, where autonomous driving technology is becoming more advanced and automotive network services are diversifying. For customers who are new to AUTOSAR, we offer a variety of engineering services based on In-vehicle experience, including lecture-style AUTOSAR deployment training and workshop-style BSW deployment assistance.
